We recently had a bat in one of the units of our condo building. The building has a flat membrane roof with no attic and no eaves and no chimney. We don't see any evidence of bats in the walls. Is it possible that the bat coming in was a one-time event, or do we need to do a more thorough search for a bat colony in the building?

It is likely that it was just a single bat. They sometimes find their way in and then become confused inside and have trouble finding their way back out. Watching the exterior of the building around dusk would be a way to check for the presence of a colony. They would leave each evening to hunt and return in the early morning hours.
