unknown animal under cement slab porch

I've had a skunk living under my slab porch this summer. Small hole for it to get in and out and no problem. Now it appears a larger critter has moved in - very large hole and debris pushed out as of this morning. The hole is now large enough that it will put a stress on the slab and perhaps it will break. I do not want to hurt the animal and have heard that most will leave if amonia is put in the den. Is this safe for the animal or is there a better way to handle this. Once I am sure it is out, I can put in some Sakrete. Thanks for your help.

The smell can be overpowering in a small, confined area such as a den. It would be better to live trap the animal and release it after the den has been filled in. However, a large hole typically indicates a woodchuck, fox, or coyote. Woodchucks should have already started hibernating, so a new excavation seems unlikely unless the animal is getting a late start. If the animal is a fox or coyote you should hire a nuisance wildlife control operator to trap the animal for you. Can you make out any tracks around the site?

I woke up this morning with a large hole dug under my front concrete stoop.

What kind of animal did you find living under your stoop that dug a similar hole?

Have you noticed any woodchucks (groundhog) nearby?
