I would like to construct a large bat house, I have read alot of information about them. Are there any specific guidelines I should follow for success especially for the northern Illinois area.

The goal of a bat house is to provide shelter during the warmer months. Bat houses do not provide sufficient protection from the harsh winters in Illinois for bats to be able to overwinter in them. But they are a great addition. Bat Conservation International is a respected source for information and they provide guides for installing bat houses.
