Injured Goldfinch

We have a male Goldfinch who is staying in our bush out front all day and night for the past three days. He goes to our feeder and drinks from the birdbath, then goes back into the bush. I can walk right up to him and he doesn't leave. He tucks in his beak like he is sleeping. Should I leave him alone, take him to a rehabilitator, bring him inside and put him in a birdcage and feed him? I don't know what to do. At times it looks like his left wing is injured. Any advise would be appreciated.

The best thing to do is to leave the Goldfinch where he is now. Provide fresh food and water at the feeder and birdbath. Do not put him in a bird cage. It is illegal to keep wildlife as pets, and it would be extremely stressful for a wild bird to be locked up in a cage and living indoors. I would not recommend taking him to a rehabber. There are very few rehabbers licensed to care for birds, and wing injuries need special care. The best thing is to let him remain wild and free and hopefully his injury will heal on its own.

I have a goldfinch doing same thing. I think it has avian trichomoniasis . Very sad, waiting to hear back from Cornell if there is anything I can do besides remove feeders and birdbaths to prevent spread. This bird is also very puffed up, looks huge compared to the rest and also appears damp all the time around upper body.
