Baby Bunnies

The neighbors dogs discovered a bunnies nest and before the dogs killed them all my children and the neighbor children moved the babies to the other side of the fence. When I got home the kids showed me them and we put sticks over the new nest to see if the mom would come back for them. The eyes are not opened yet and they are fuzzy and about two inches long. The mother has not come back and now I am worried they will die if they are not taken care of. I have read on how to care for them but that other sites say don't even try. I am not sure what to do but I just can't do nothing for these poor little bunnies.

Female rabbits are pretty discreet about coming to the nest to feed the young. So you may not see her when she comes back. But since the young were moved from the nest she may just abandon them. If they are just sitting on top of the ground, they don't have much of a shot (especially if cooler weather kicks in). I would recommend that you call McHenry County Conservation District (815) 728-8307 to see if they have a wildlife rehabilitator that could take the rabbits. There are also other licensed rehabbers listed at: http://web.extension.illinois.edu/wildlife/professionals.cfm Good luck!
