i live with grey foxes in my area. i was walking my dogs (kelpie and cairn). the cairn keyed on what i at first thought was a cat sitting approx 15-20 ft away. my kelpie saw it and flipped out and started barking like a lunatic, and this animal ran towards us and i saw it was a fox. i tried to walk on down the road and it ran alongside us for several yards about the same distance away from us, occasionally running slightly towards us, then back, until i decided to return home, as i wasn't sure what was going on and did not want my dogs to harm it should it actually get close enough. when i got back to the spot where i first saw it sitting, it sat down! why would it do this? thank you for any help you can give.

Is it possible that this fox may have been released? Oftentimes wildlife that have been cared for by humans have less fear of humans than their "wild" counterparts. Or it might have been a young animal that was just more curious about people and dogs than the average fox.
