Hello, This isn't quite a wildlife question but we have had a request for ideas to keep neighborhood cats from spraying around a homeowner's pool. they also bite holes in the cover of the pool and try to get the food and birds from their squirrel & bird feeders. I have seen that moth balls are poisonous to the cats. Is this correct? Do you have any other ideas? Thank you.

Moth balls should not be used. They are poisonous if ingested and they are not likely to work to deter cats anyway. This is likely to be a unpopular bit of advice, but the best method is to live-trap the cats. Feral cats should be removed by Animal Control. Cats that are pets should not be allowed outside unsupervised, and certainly should not be allowed to damage the neighbor's pool cover, spray their property, etc. All live-traps must be checked at least once a day (more often would be better given the current temperatures) and the animals removed from the traps (either taken by Animal Control or returned to their owners).
