My grandson seen an orange water snake at their pond. Is it poisonous?/

Very unlikely. There are only four species of venomous snakes in Illinois, only one of which prefers habitats near water.

There are several non-venomous snakes that have orange to yellowish coloring that live near water. Did the snake look like any of the ones listed under "Species Found Near Water" on this webpage?: http://web.extension.illinois.edu/wildlife/directory_show.cfm?species=reptile
