Robin's nest

We found a robin's nest which we saw had four eggs. The nest was built on top of a climbing area for children at a school yard. The play area is always empty, so we were not too worried for them. We came back three times to check on them. I have pictures. Today, with our little boy, who has been following this experience, we found the playground had mounds of new wood chips to be spread throughout. We looked to see if the birds were OK and to our horror, their nest was carelessly thrown down a slide. I am just sick over this. How anyone could kill tiny birds and listen to that mother squacking is beyond me. Is there ANYTHING we can do? Ialso took pictures of the empty nest, and my little boy crying beside it.

I'm very sorry that your son had to experience finding the nest destroyed. It is illegal to destroy a nest with eggs or young in it. But unless you know who did it, there isn't anything the Conservation Police can do.

Is it possible that a predator, such as a raccoon, may have found the nest? Nests sometimes get dislodged when a predator takes the young.
