red foxes

I live in a rural Morton area. For the past several weeks we have been seeing 3 young foxes out in the fields and beside the road several times a day (morning, noon, and night). I know they are supposed to be nocturnal for the most part, so I have concerns about their safety and health. They do not seem overly concerned when they see us, though they will run into the woods after watching us for a moment. Do you think that I should call someone to check on them...or just let nature take its course? Thanks so much!

No, if their coats look good and they're active, there's nothing to be concerned about. They are just enjoying their time outside of the den. The parents will use the summer to teach them to hunt. By the fall, the young will move on to find new territories. So there's a short window of time for the parents to teach them what they need to know to survive on their own.

Thanks so much for your prompt response! One of the foxes was crying/calling...making horrible noises for about an hour at about 2 AM. I hope she's okay. I could see her out the window and she did not seem to be hurt or anything.
