We have fed suirrels on their own feeders for many years, tho usually taper off and discontinue in August(for a break!) and resume for Fall, Winter and Spring. Would disontinuing feeding altogether cause a problem for them? Is feeding them every day causing a problem for them (ibreeding, overly dependent on sunflower seeds, etc). Sincerely, Brooke

Feeders cause more animals to be present in a location than would happen normally, which can increase the risk of spreading disease or parasites from one squirrel to another. As long as you keep the feeders clean and you don't notice any sick squirrels you should be fine to keep feeding them if you choose to. If you do discontinue the feeding, try to reduce the amount of food available over the course of a couple of weeks to give the animals time to find alternative food sources.
