Hi,

I don't know if I am sending this question to the right place, but a friend and I were walking in Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie. I noticed a snake on the trail that I was not able to identify. It was approximately 12-16 inches long and did not appear to be aggressive. A photo of it can be seen here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/mls60442/IMG_1017_zpsdce6303c.jpg

The photo was taken on June 30, 2012 in the late afternoon or early evening. I have searched the DNR and U of I Extension sites and havenot been able to identify it. I appreciate any help in identifying this snake. Thank you.

This is a Brown Snake, Storeria dekayi. It is sometimes called Dekay's Snake. You can learn more at: http://www.inhs.illinois.edu/animals_plants/herps/species/st_dekayi.html
