Squirrel dragging it's hind legs

I just saw a squirrel by the front of my house that is dragging his hind legs. I didn't get close, don't need him freaking out and he was squeaking bad enough. He's shaking some too. I can't afford to have a "rehabilitator" come get him and do what they do and I don't want to see the poor guy suffering either. What can be done? I've called one gal and am awaiting a response, but I don't know how long that will take and I don't want the guy getting getting beat up by other animals, dogs, or the weather. Anything I can do otherwise? Please advise.

Unfortunately there is not much you can do for it. It sounds like it was probably hit by a car. In addition to the loss of its legs, there may be internal bleeding. Euthanasia would be the most humane course, but that requires capturing the animal. That is not something you should attempt to do. The only licensed wildlife rehabilitator in Tazewell County is Gail MacPherson: (309) 573-3131 Sorry that you have to watch the squirrel suffer. Sometimes local veterinarians will help out in cases like this, but most do not.

Rehabilitators don't change although they appreciate donations.
