Chewed up wiring

Twice this week, some kind of animal has chewed through the wires under the hood of my car. After the first incident, I spread hot pepper oil on the repaired wires, but the animal returned a day later and found other wires and hoses to chew up. Any idea what animal would do this? And how do I get it to stop?

Mice, rats, and squirrels are all known to chew car wires. If you park your car in a garage, you can try trapping the animal. If the car is parked outside, it will be harder to deal with the situation. Is there another location where you can park your car temporarily?
