Ducks out of water

A pair of mallards has decided to take up residency in our bank parking lot. I find this strange because there is no water nearby and I'm not sure where the little miss thinks she's going to lead her young (provided they're working on some...which seems likely!) when they are born. Being that we are near a busy street, I wonder if we should be doing something now to prevent them from laying eggs in a dangerous spot or if we just need to let them be and hope for the best. (Honestly, my motives are selfish. I think the little buggers are so cute and hate the idea of having to come to work and see squished duckies one morning even though I just love getting to see them right now!)

You would be surprised at some of the strange places that mallards nest and still successfully get the ducklings to water. It's best to let them nest, and hope that they get a good roll of the dice.
