There is a concrete slab that leads to my front door. The dirt on both sides near the house has been dug out and some animal is living under the concrete. Can you tell me if I should be worried? I fear it might be a skunk and a family member or my dog could run in to it at night. Could it be some other animal that will cause damage? What do I do about it?

It could be a skunk or possibly a woodchuck. No matter which species it turns out to be, you do not want a wild animal living under the slab at your front door. The best bet would be to hire a nuisance wildlife control operator (NWCO) to trap and remove the animal for you. After the animal is removed, be sure to fill in the burrow on both sides so that another animal does not come along and take up residence. Do this as soon as you can, because this is the time of year when young are born. Better to remove just one animal than one with young. To find a licensed NWCO in your area go to: http://web.extension.illinois.edu/wildlife/professionals.cfm
