I HAD A MALLARD HEN & DRAKE THAT WAS HANGING AROUND MY BACK YARD FOR A FEW DAYS AND I THOUGHT THEY HAD MOVED ON. MY LITTLE SCHNAUZER ALERTED ME TO A NEST IN THE PAMPAS GRASS THAT HAD SIX EGGS IN IT. I WATCHED AND THE HEN HAS BEEN SITTING ON THE EGGS. TODAY I FENCED OFF PART OF MY YARD TO KEEP THE DOGS AWAY BUT STILL GIVE HER PLENTY OF ROOM TO LAND AND TAKE OFF. MY SMALL FISH POND IN WITHIN THE FENCED AREA. MAMA DUCK WATCHED FROM A DISTANCE AND RETURNED TO THE NEST WHEN I FINISHED. THE MYSTERY IS WHEN I WENT BACK OUT AFTER ABOUT TWO HOURS, THE HEN AND HER EGGS WERE GONE. DID SHE MOVE THEM MAYBE? THIS WAS ABOUT 2 O'CLOCK IN THE AFTERNOON. HOPE YOU CAN ANSWER THIS. I'M WORRIED THAT I DID SOMETHING WRONG. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

No, she wouldn't have moved the eggs. A predator most likely got the eggs. Were the eggs in the nest today when you started building the fence? It's usually raccoons that go after the eggs, but I wouldn't expect a raccoon to be out that time of day. Is it possible your schnauzer snuck back there before you had the fence up? Dogs will take duck eggs.
