Injured Pigeon

There is a pigeon near my home in Hyde Park south side Chicago who was fine until last week when I noticed that she was injured - seems to be a wing and especially back end. I know she is struggling more as time goes by. She hides during the day under parked cars on the sidestreet. I put food and water out every day but think it is time to see if I can do more for her by getting her to someone who can actually help her. I hate the idea that she is suffering, though when she gets to the food I put out she is obviously hungry but she has to struggle with the other birds and there is one male who keeps bothering her. I chase him away, but this just scares her so she doesn't get to eat as much as she wants. I am now trying a new tactic to put food for her elsewhere from the other birds. Plan to start mixing some antibiotic in food and water for her. Please help. Is there someplace reasonably distanced from 54th and Hyde Park Boulevard in Chicago? I would probably have to take a cab as I don't have a car. Or do you know someone in the area I can contact?

Bonni, Is the pigeon still there? Mixing an antibiotic in with food and water is not a good idea (you don't know what other birds/animals may come into contact with the water). You can find a list of licensed wildlife rehabilitators at: http://web.extension.illinois.edu/wildlife/professionals.cfm There are several in Cook Co. who are licensed to help birds.
