Orphaned baby bird near our garage

Hi, We found a baby bird sitting near our garage yesterday. It looks like it had fallen out of a nest nearby, because we found another dead baby bird on the ground below the nest. We put back the baby bird to its nest to see if the mother bird will come back. What should we do if it is an orphaned bird. Thanks, Roz
