Killing Duckweed in pond

I have a small pond which is full of Duckweed. I have been fighting this all year. I recently bought a chemical from Rural King. I think it is weedtrine. I followed the directions and found 8 fish floating. Do you think it was the oxygen level or the chemical? What do you suggest I do to get rid of the Duckweed? Bob
