Douglas Squirrel

I went out to check the feeders, and as is often the case, there was a Douglas Squirrel sitting at the sunflower feeder. They're used to us, so he let me get fairly close.

I saw that he had several black spots around his neck and face. When I got closer, I saw they were black bumps or warts, clumped together in a few spots. I haven't seen this on any of the other squirrels in our yard, but since I usually see them from a greater distance, I don't know if any of the others have these.

Do you have any idea what this is? Is it contagious to other squirrels, wild birds, cats, or dogs?

Could you get some photos of the squirrel and send them to me at lkammin@illinois.edu ?
