There was an article about the cougar which was killed recently in Southern Illinois by the DNR. Many are wondering why it was not tranquilized for study and relocation instead of being killed. Can you answer this question for us, please?

In this case, the property owner in Whiteside County was concerned for the safety of their horses and other pets.

Mountain lions (i.e., cougars) are predators and they need a large hunting territory. They can move several hundred miles in a single day. A mountain lion that has been relocated is not going to stay where they are released.

In addition, relocation is dangerous both for the animal being relocated and for the people who conduct the relocation.
