mallard duck nesting habits

I belong to hunting club in suburban Chicago. we are trying to research the best time of spring to put our duck nests on Kankakee river near coal city. our nests are 3 to 4 feet above water . lalso how far apart should they be from each other. my phone number is 630-728-2576.i hope you can help us. thank you.
