Red squirrel lost 3/4 tail & hair

Hello~ we have a red squirrel that has lost 3/4 of his tail, I saw it hanging & then it finally fell off. We call this little guy Stubby, today we noticed that he is now missing A LOT of his hair. Mainly from his neck & 1/2 way down his back. He is a hearty eater, we feed him sunflower seeds, raw peanuts, & corn. We are concerned about this little guy, any suggestions on how to help him? Thanks!!

I'd be concerned about mange. Any chance you can send me a couple of close up photos of the squirrel? Are there lots of other squirrels around?
