Just curious...I live in the city near Diversey & Ashland. While out walking my dogs - especially in the morning - I have been hearing a lot of "knocking" sounds. Maybe ten to twelve in a row then it stops and then ten or twelve more etc. Are there woodpeckers in our area? I don't remember hearing this in the past. I love seeing and hearing all of the different wildlife and was just wondering if this sounds like woodpecker behavior. Thanks!

Yes, we have several species of woodpeckers in Illinois. The sound you describe could be the sound of woodpeckers drumming on trees.
