We have a juvenile squirrel on our property that has an abscess on his head (at the cheek). When I first saw him my first impression was that he was holding food in a cheek pouch, but I have seen him every day for the past week and his cheek looks exactly the same every time. He is foraging, eating well and behaving as any other healthy squirrel. As best as I can tell with my binoculars, the abscess does not appear to be infected and like I said - it just looks like a cheek pouch stuffed full. What could be causing this? Is there need for concern for him that someone should be contacted? Thank you in advance.
