Birds nesting

I'm not sure if the birds are sparrows or other species but I'm having a time getting them to stop nesting under the eve of my porch....it seems worse at night and I have counted up to 8 on the ledge. Are mothballs a good choice to place on the ledge to keep them from nesting there? They are making quite a mess on the concrete of my porch. Thank you so much!

Moth balls aren't usually a good idea. Using netting or wire to keep them away from the eave usually works. Could you send me a photo? There may be other methods to try.
