How do i treat a broken leg of an 8 month old squirrell? The bone is broken in half. The vet applied a bandage (twice), but we had to take it off because the leg is gettinng big and red/sore. Why is the leg sore? Initially, the bandage was not tight at all! As soon as we take the bandage off, the leg is ,,decreasing,,. Please excuse my english. What should we do? This squirrel is like a family member for us. Is there any chance that the leg will heal by itself, with no bandage? It is the front leg and the skin is not broken. Thank you very much.

The leg will heal on its own, but it may not heal well (i.e., the bone may not heal straight, causing problems with movement and/or pain). I would encourage you to take the squirrel to another veterinarian for care or find a local wildlife rehabilitator to help it. Do you live in Illinois?
