Kite-Bird DOA

I found a bird (dead) outside my patio. I think it flew into the glass window and I have kept it in the freezer. With my research, I think it is a kite and I am also finding out that it is illegal to have it stuffed. Being such a beautiful bird, is there any state agency I can send it to for scientific use? It seems to be a waste and a shame if I have to bury it or burn it.

Thanks, Catherine Wessels

It is illegal to keep the bird unless you have a permit from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. If it is a kite and in good condition, there may be an agency that would want it. Can you send me a couple photos to: lkammin@illinois.edu
