I'm a freshman in high school and am interested in becoming a zoologist or wildlife biologist. I was wondering what really got you into the position you are in now and what might help me to achieve a job like this.

Hi Sara, I love wildlife and teaching people about wildlife, so my job at University of Illinois Extension was a perfect fit. I'd recommend that you take as many math, chemistry, biology, and statistics classes as you can, both in high school and in college. These days, being bilingual is a big plus too. If you want a decent paying job as a zoologist or wildlife biologist, you're likely going to need a Master's degree at the very least. A PhD will open a lot more doors and opportunities for exciting work. The next thing I'd recommend is to try and get summer internships working with wildlife biologists out in the field. Depending on where you want to go to college and what species you are most interested in working with, I might be able to help you make some connections with professors. Let me know if I can help.
