Fledgling Doves

We have some mourning doves who are nesting in a potted plant in our balcony, which overlooks an enclosed courtyard. Today I accidentally startled the two chicks (the parents were away from the nest at the time). The bigger chick flew away but the smaller one fluttered to the ground. He was not visibly hurt and I gently pUT him back and retreated. Will the parents come back to feed this chick? Will they be able to find the one that flew off? They have some feathers but seem to still rely on mom and dad for food. Just worried and kicking myself for making them fly the nest prematurely.

Don't worry. They will find both chicks. Don't be surprised if the second one decides to leave the nest now too. Young doves tend to cling to the nest a little longer than some of the other birds. Sometimes it takes a little scare to get them to move on. Sounds like the first one was ready to go. No need to kick yourself. With young birds, as with some young adults, they sometimes just need that little extra incentive to realize they can make it.
