Geese

We live in a subdivision and my neighbor will not stop feeding the geese (she piles bread and bird food on her patio every morning) and we have several flocks of geese a day. There is feces all over. My children who play outside, every few days get diarhea and are throwing up. The neighbor restarts her feeding every spring. Is there anything legally we can do to have her stop feeding them? We have spoken to her, and she does not care at all. Thank you for your help!

Good morning, This is a tricky one. There are no state laws against feeding Canada geese in Illinois. But some municipalities have bans on feeding wildlife. It would be worth a call to see if such a ban is in place in your village. If you have spoken to the neighbor about discontinuing the feeding without any success then your best option is to try and keep the geese off of your property. The Canada goose page provides tips on ways to keep geese away. It can be accessed at: http://web.extension.uiuc.edu/wildlife/directory_show.cfm?species=canadagoose If you have more questions please feel free to e-mail me. Good luck.
