Raccoons prowling in the day

Should I be concerned about a raccoon we seen several times wandering and rummaging in the yard during broad daylight? Is he so accustomed to humans? I found him on my patio under the grill, - needless to say I'll make sure the grill area is clear of any appealing tidbits that may have fallen. This is the first year I've seen this behavior.

Raccoons living in urban areas do tend to be less wary of humans than their rural cousins. It is not unusual to spot one during the day. Particularly if there is a potential food source available in the area...such as a grill. In order to keep unwanted raccoon visitors from coming into your yard you'll want to: keep the grill area clean, do not leave any pet food outside, and secure your garbage cans. Raccoons are smart, strong, and quick to exploit easy food resources.
