squirrels

I feed the squirrels regularly so they are always around my yard. What I would like to know is can they get sick eating bar soap? Would they even eat it? I've notice my neighbor has cut slivers of soap and placed them all along the fence. I'm not sure if that is to deter the squirrels or possibly due to the mice and rat problem she has. She is aware that I feed the squirrels and has never said anything to me. Should I be worried for my squirrels?

Some people put out soap to deter rabbits. I've heard people swear that Irish Spring works, but the research indicates that soap is not effective at keeping rabbits from eating plants used in landscaping or gardening. The squirrels are not likely to eat any of the soap.
